Reformed Convent as a Single Family Home, Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire
A run down and badly extended convent with a chapel and Bishop's residence was purchased by clients with the brief to reform into a single family home.
Both busy executives, our clients wanted space to live comfortably by themselves, with space for continuing their interest in art and photography, and a shared passion for books, and as many spacious en-suited bedrooms for friends and family to stay. The project retained and, minimally modified the external structure, whilst changing the character of the building by altering the fenestration, and at the same time made significant changes to the interior plan and remodelling of space to provide a luxurious and spacious master bedroom / dressing room and bathroom suite, 5 further spacious bedrooms with 4 bathrooms, large kitchen / dining area, spacious sitting room, study, library, art room, laundry and office. Externally, a new paved terrace with grand stair to a lower level lawned area overlooked a river with sun deck and relaxation space. An idyllic retreat from work.
